Can't upload using broadband

This is going to seem like a daft question, but I really don't know much about these things

Since we got broadband I have still had to upload to my website using dialup, because the Core Ftp Lite I use won't work using the broadband connection.

I'm getting a new laptop later today and I am unsure whether I will be able to use dial up with it. I hope someone can help, thank you!
