SSH problem: Doing a "switch user"

I'm using CoreFTP Lite, and I'm trying to log into a web server via SSH and then switch users to a root account. I can't for the life of me figure out how to switch to the root, although I'm assuming it can't be a complicated thing to do.

How can I do this through CoreFTP Lite's main user interface? If it have to be done by command line, can someone help me? I don't have much command line experience at all.

For NB owners unless NA has them too, I dont know, what is the red switch and the black button near the fusebox?
