Can upload but not download

Post by dallwitz »

I've been using Core FTP LE for several weeks to upload files. Today I tried to use it for downloads, and it failed. I tried several sites, with the same result. The transfer pane just says 'Failed' under 'Status'.

No, there were no problems in those areas. I'd tried several files from several servers. The disk has 2GB free.

I've now solved the problem by uninstalling and re-installing the program. I first tried retaining the profiles when I uninstalled, but the problem persisted. Then I did a complete uninstall, and the problem was fixed.

This seems to indicate that I had a bad combination of options. I don't know what these options were, as I set them when I first installed the program, weeks ago.

That couldn't have been the cause. After your first suggestions, I deliberately placed a file with the same name as the one I was trying to download in the destination directory, and I got the dialog asking whether to overwrite the file. This shows that the local path was valid. (When I said yes, it went ahead, but the transfer failed whether the file was read-only or not.) I use this same directory as the source directory for all my uploads, so it is set permanently as the local path. I can always see the expected files in the 'local directory' pane, which presumably wouldn't be possible if the local path was invalid.

I found the cause of the problem. It happens when 'Ignore' is checked in 'Global Settings - Extensions - Files that should be transferred as ASCII'.
