Silent Mode for running in Background

Need to check and see if I call a .bat or .cmd file from SQL Job with a command line that it will run in the background with the PRO version in silent mode. Currently tried with the Free version and the job just hangs because I am running it on a server that is never logged on to (unattended). Thoughts?
