Compare/Synch problem

Using the Compare/Synch tool, when I click on Compare, it modifies the size of HTML files on my local drive and reports that the file sizes don't match. The size is modified BEFORE I click on synchronize. If I then click on Synchronize, it doesn't update the file on the remote site and reports failed on the file.

For example, on my drive I have index.html with 876 bytes and the same on my remote ftp site. If I open the compare/synch tool and then on compare, it will modify the size of the file on my drive to 910 bytes. I can see it being changed in the background in the main program window.

I have also tried manually copying the 910 byte file from my drive to the site and it remained at that size. When I did the compare, it changed the size on the site back to 876 and the one on my drive remained at 910. Very strange. Another thing is that it changed the extension from .html to .htm.

This tool would have been perfect for my mom to keep her website up-to-date but this totally prevents it from this use. Any help would be appreciated.

The first transfer I did from the site to my drive was done manually. Everything else was by the Compare/Synch tool.
