This is a really simple question.
Is there a way to "un-mask" or view English versions of connection passwords in the connections dialog? (or somewhere I can view the decrypted versions). I looked in the options but couldn't find a pref for making the passes visible... and in the reg key they're encrypted.
So if you forget the pass on an older connection, then need to recall it, there doesn't seem to be a way to retrieve it?
Thanks
Hidden Passwords
I know this post is a little old, and the original poster has probably found a solution already, but I thought it would be helpful to those searching for a solution here.
I don't think it is possible to recover an FTP password within CoreFTP. I have tried many FTP clients and I don't believe any of them would allow this.
You can search Google, or freeware download sites like Download.com for "freeware password recovery" tools.
One that I found that works with CoreFTP is shown below, but first, I should mention something important ...
Most (probably all) of these password recovery tools (including the one I used that works), are blocked by most anti-spyware/anti-virus programs. These tools are considered "Hacking tools" or something similar. In order to download and install and run these tools, you will have to configure your anti-spyware/anti-virus programs to allow the Password Recovery tool to operate.
The program I have used is named Revelation v2.0. I have used it for years and it is definitely not a virus/spyware and it is definitely not dangerous to install and use, even though my Norton anti-spyware/anti-virus program considers it a hacking tool.
My suggestion is that you pick one or more that you like based on features, then use Google, or visit some anti-malware forums and ask an expert there if the program is safe.
The tool I have used that works for me to recover passwords from CoreFTP, is: Revelation v2.0. It is available at Snadboy.com
Instructions for using Revelation v2.0 to recover FTP passwords from CoreFTP:
1. Download and install Revelation v2.0 from http://snadboy.com.
2. You may have to temporarily disable your anti-spyware/anti-virus program while you download and install Revelation. With Norton, you can add the program to Norton's exclusion list and Norton will allow the program to operate.
3. Run CoreFTP and open the Sitemanager.
4. From the list of sites, Select the site you want to recover the password for.
5. Run Revelation v2.0, and position its window so it doesn't block the view of the password field on the CoreFTP Sitemanager window.
6. Left-Click and Drag the "Crosshairs" (a circled-plus-sign) from the Revelation window, over to the password field on CoreFTP (your cursor will change to "crosshairs" while you drag).
7. While still positioned over the password field, release the mouse button.
8. Your password should now be shown in plain text on the Revelation window in the Text field.
9. You can click the button on Revelation to [Copy to clipboard].
I hope this helps.
