Having trouble connecting to dyndns.com account

I created a dynamic DNS acoount at dyndns.com and i am trying to use coreftp to to connect to the dynamic dns hostname that I created. I keep getting a can't establish a connection with the hostname that I set up. I just set up the host name on saturday, is there a certain amount of time that it takes for the host name to take effect? I am also connecting through a cable modem, which is connected to a linksys router. Is there something special that I have to do to get coreftp to get throught the router?
