help with purge or del

I would like to use a command line script to remove files older than 3 days. I have been messing around with purge and del and nothing seems to work. I have seen other posts on here about the syntax and have tried everything I can think of.

Please help! How do purge and del work? I'd love to see some examples and/or tips on how to troubleshoot. Thanks.
