access multiple directories

I am trying to set users to have access to a home directory for themselves and a general directory that everyone can access. I can get them to access the home but not the general directory. When I log in it just goes to the home directory I do not see the general directory. I do have the lock to home folder option unchecked. Is the a user guide on this setup?

setup the shared directory as a virtual path:
www.coreftp.com/server/help/Virtual_Paths.htm
