UNABLE TO UPLOAD TO FTP SERVER

Post by GODDERS »

[u]ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED AND THANKS IN ANTICIPATION.

Hi, until recently, 10 days or so, and despite its size, I have successfully uploaded the directory for "godfreydykes.info" using version 2.2 [either 32 or 64] with and without my windows/mcafee firewall connected. I have windows 8.1 [from launch] and use it with great success!

[b]Below is the log for my last attempted upload.[/b] Is there an obvious problem?

Try unchecking the "PASV" option completely. If that doesn't do it, post the updated log after connecting.

UNABLE TO CONNECT TO public_html on FTP

Good morning FORUM ADMIN and many thanks for your reply.
Have done as suggested with the PASV box totally blank and this is my log in return.

This was followed by the dialogue box which said "Cannot retrieve directory listings [server not responding]. Would you like to try the directory listing in the opposite mode [active/pasv]? YES or NO"

Many thanks for fielding this on my behalf.

run this to get your external IP address
coreftp.com/misc/myip.php

then plug it in your site profile -> advanced -> connections -> use NAT/IP address. Connect again.

If that doesn't work then likely you will need to add a firewall exception for \program files\coreftp\coreftp.exe

UNABLE TO POST TO FTP

Post by GODDERS »

Hi and once again thanks. However like 99% of ftp users, we use it because it is good and simple, even for idiots like me. Regret, that this it too technical for me! We [my wife and I] are off to the West of England to be with our sick daughter and her family, so will plod on to try, when time permits, to resolve the problem myself or ditch my site altogether. As I said, things were going well and then all of a sudden, bang [nothing] and that is after publishing my site for over 12 years!
Can you simplify your instructions so that novices like me can understand and follow please. If not, thanks and I appreciate your time and effort on my behalf.
Best regards.

UNABLE TO USE FTP TO UPLOAD

Post by GODDERS »

At least good manners dictates that I should answer your post although in truth I don't fully understand it. Never mind; it was kind of you to bother and thanks for doing so.
After my return home, I decided to have one last go at uploading to the server via FTP, just on the off-chance. To my amazement, having truthfully not altered anything on my computer, I was able to engage PUBLIC.HTML within just a few seconds. Fearing a "freak condition" all my subsequent efforts proved successful, made at various times throughout the day and evening, so I consider an acquisition to be the norm and I am grateful to have the facility back in use again - whatever the gremlin which caused the malfunction. Go well, take care, and good luck with your FTP connections.
