Please help

Post by garyg1960 »

I have only recently started using Core so apologies if this is covered elsewhere.

I am now unable to contact the web design company that produced my website and cannot access it to update.
On the advice of the people who sold me the domain name I have downloaded Core to rectify this.
My problem is that although I do personnaly own the domain I believe that the designers have locked everyone one out of the site and I do not have passwords etc for access.
The domain name company have advised that I delete the mm? file and then reinstall with myself as administrator.
Can you please tell me how I get to that point as at present I just get a series of unable to connect messages.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for trying to help - I dont know who is hosting the site so I assume moving the files manually is the option.
Unfortunately copying files like this is all new to me so I dont know where to start.
Thanks again

Thanks cp.
All that seems straight forward enough. If I then use another web hosting company will they have problems hosting the domain name if it is hosted elsewhere?

Gary, what is your website's URL? (i.e.: www.what_is_it.com)

If you provide this, I can probably give you a bit more detail for contact information.

Okay, by using a WHOIS query on your domain name (which anyone can do if it's not listed as a private domain) I got the following results (and more):

domain: bulgariaportfolios.com
organization: BulgariaPortfolios
admin-c: gary.g*****@********#0
tech-c: newdom@lowcostnames.co.uk#0
reseller: Domain registered by Low Cost Names
reseller: http://www.lowcostnames.co.uk
nserver: ns1.livedns.co.uk
nserver: ns2.livedns.co.uk
status: lock

contact-hdl: gary.g*****@*************#0
organization: BulgariaPortfolios
email: gary.g*****@**********
address: 106 Gunnergate Lane
address: Marton
city: Middlesbrough
state: North Yorkshire
country: GB
phone: 01642501615

contact-hdl: newdom@lowcostnames.co.uk#0
organization: LCN.com Ltd
email: newdom@lowcostnames.co.uk
address: 3 Maple Park
address: Essex Road
city: Hoddesdon
state: Herts
country: GB
phone: +44 870 744 0823

Registry Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Registry Status: clientDeleteProhibited
Registry Status: clientTransferProhibited
Registry Status: clientUpdateProhibited

-------
You are listed as the owner of the domain, but LCN.com (or lowcostnames.co.uk) are listed as the registrant so there might be a problem. I've placed this information for you so you may contact them if you wish. Your host is (most likely) either livedns.co.uk or someone acting as a reseller. However, livedns.co.uk should be able to direct you to the proper person to get your login credentials so long as you can prove to them that you are who you are (since your name is listed as the owner of the domain).

I did a quick check on livedns.co.uk to find that the domain contains no relevant web-based information, it is only used as a holding domain for domain name service...therefore, I took it one step further; the company that owns the livedns.co.uk domain name is FastHosts.co.uk:
http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/

THEY should be able to help you further. :) I hope this helps...I also hope I was correct in the fact that this was some of the information that you were looking to get.

Gary, no need; glad to help. It only took about 5 minutes, and most of that time was spent formatting the stuff I pasted in this box. :) It's all just a matter of where to look and knowing where to look. I hope things work out well for your endeavor ahead. :D
