re: downloading latest version

Post by DanV »

Hi to everyone.

When I go to download the latest version should I place that in the existing folder for Core in Program Files? The folder that pops up when you activate the download is the desktop but when I originally installed Core - for that matter any downloads - I place then in a "Received Files" folder. Or does it matter at all since it will detect that an earlier version is on the system regardless which folder you place the update in?

The reason I ask this is that some time back I downloaded an update on something else and I ended up with two folders for the same thing.

Thank You

As far as I'm aware the update is itself a full installation and will not overwrite any current files you have -- in fact, it can create a backup of any previous files if you want.

The file you're downloading itself doesn't really matter where you save it, so long as you can run it...it's just an installer.

Hi

Thank you for the reply, Brendon.

I guess then when the download box asks where it's going to go I will just send it to the existing Core folder.

I'm not sure what you mean by creating a backup of previous files. I will just have to study up more on ftp in general and especially as it is done on Core. If you know of a good website - or book form - tutorial on FTP that provides everything from a to z please let me know.

Cheers

The file you download is an installer. The installation process will offer to create a backup of your current CoreFTP files so if you choose to uninstall the current version, you would have the option to roll-back to the previously installed version.

Sorry if I've confused you.

The best place (as of late) that I like to find more information about something is at http://www.wikipedia.org -- the largest online free community-powered encyclopedia. I'm currently having some trouble accessing the domain, but by the time you read this I assume there won't be any problems with their server. Choose your language/locale, then do a search on FTP.[/quote]
