RETRIEVING LIST OF SITES AND THEIR FTP DATA

Post by koolred »

Hi!

I happened to have a crash on my computer and had to re-install XP. The result was that after that, all my CoreFTP sites in the site manager and all the datas have disappeared. My impression is that CoreFTP stores this data in the Registry. After such a crash is there a way to retrieve the data, I had a lot of it.

The second question is that if it is not possible to retrieve it then why isn't there a way to export the list of sites and ftp data in order to avoid this kind of problem. That would be of a great help! An important security factor!

Many Thanks

Hi,

Many thanks for your answer :D

Still I was wondering if you could explain where are stored the accounts of the ftp clients, I mean the sites of the site managers? Is there a way to retrieve the old information if the registered has been reset?

Cheers

Thanks so much for taking the time to add these details, that was also very instructive indeed.

I tried to do what you said "options -> data -> use default configuration file" but the whole tab was greyed except for "directory for temporary file". I tried to change general settings but it did not help.

About my computer, when it crashed I had to re-install windows from the cd as I did not have access to Windows anymore and I don't know how to use the restoring, as I was in a hurry it did not even occur to me, I have to learn it since it must not be complicated and must be the solution to this kind of crash.

Yes I lost all the data on the disk but on the other side I had about most of it saved on different files, so that I was able to rewrite all by hand. Fortunately I keep backups of everything.

I must say that although the restore system exists, a "backup settings" button in every program that would store all the most important settings, automatically and into the place I want, would be a fantastic. Some programs think about it and make it easy, in other programs it's a difficult task for the user. In CoreFTP it's good because unlike Outlook's email accounts export it cleverly exports everthing at once, but on the other side in CoreFTP site manager the export function is not visible unless you right click. The question is that not all people are technical but they understand that they need to backup their settings if they have heavy databases.

This could add a good extra security in case of hard drive crash. It happened to me. I like CoreFTP for its ease of use, I havn't see anything better in simplicity, so in terms of usability you did a GREAT job. The only problem I have is that it runs very slow, about 18 kilos/s on upload, I have a 1MB ADSL line and I don't know what to do to make uploads faster.

Cheers :)
