Suggestion: Persistent "File Exists" Actions

Post by inrig »

I use CoreFTP mostly to upload changes to the web sites I maintain, so for me, most files already exist when I do an upload, and I always want to replace a "destination" side file if the "source" side file is newer. However, each time I start an upload, I get a dialog box asking me what to do about files that already exist. It would be nice if I could specify a "permanent" choice for each site using the site manager (under Advanced/Transfers). Actually, for my purposes, even a global option would be good enough.

CoreFTP already has a global option for "file exists" actions, but it involves a timeout (which, if I set it to 1 second, displays the dialog box for one second for each file transferred -- not really what I want but it's as close as I can get for now). I tried setting the timeout to 0, hoping that this would suppress the dialog box altogether and simply take the specified action every time; however, this had the same effect as disabling the timeout.

My requirement would be satisfied if the existing global file-exists option treated a 0 timeout as "always take this action without prompting the user". If this solution is chosen, I'd probably relabel the existing "Enable timeout" checkbox as "Automatically choose action".

Thanks for considering this suggestion.

Hi CP

No that function does not work, it appears that the option is ignored and the file uploaded irrespective of the fact that you chose 'Overwrite if Newer' or the 'Overwrite if Newer All' option.

One has to select skip each time to achieve the result which is time consuming.

Have tested on build 1416.02 (v 1.3)
