Hello,
I attempted to use CoreFTP to upload a site this afternoon (1st time using CoreFTP). It "seemed" everything went ok with login, user name, password.
Core FTP showed as connected, and I uploaded files from my desktop to the directory in my hosting account. It appears the transfer went fine.
However, when I type the site address into my browser, this message comes up:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.33 Server at (my site name) Port 80

Does anyone know why this would happen, and how I can rectify?
Thank you!
Are you uploading via FTP or HTTP? The error you're getting is an HTTP error, which could indicate you're uploading via the wrong protocol. It's fairly atypical to upload a website this way unless your web account has proper permissions.
CP, thanks for your reply.
I'm uploading via CoreFTP, and in the CoreFTP set up box that appears when starting the software, it asks for a site name. I put in
ftp://thenameofmysite.com (where of course the actual name of my hosting account website in my Go Daddy hosting plan takes the place of thenameofmysite).
It appears everything went well with uploading, and it appeared I was connected ok ... but obviously I've done something wrong. I haven't used ftp clients for that long so I'm still somewhat of a beginner.
What might I be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Jim
I misinterpreted the question! If your upload is successful, then this is probably some sort of permission/hosting/account issue that may need to be solved by your web host provider (godaddy).
It also could be that a required index.html/index.htm/index.php file is missing, and that security is setup so you can't browse the root of your URL.
CP, thanks again.
I'll check with my web host, but can you clarify what the last part of your response means? Are you talking about setting up the proper directory in my hosting account? I have multiple domains under one hosting account and the domain I'm trying to load content to is under the main domain, but I do have all the proper indexes set up for all the domains in the hosting account.
I'm particularly concerned/confused because I was able to load content to other domains successfully using another ftp client, who I left due to a new updated version that's nowhere near as user friendly as CoreFTP. But obviously I've set something up wrong. I'll check with Go Daddy to try and figure things out further, but if you could briefly explain what the last part of your response means, I would be appreciative.
Thank you again.

CP,
I wanted to make sure I'm filling things out properly in the Site Manager.
When I start Core FTP, the Site Manager pops up. Here's what I fill in, can you tell me if this is correct / makes sense?
Site Name: www.yourhowtosite.com
Host/IP/URL: ftp.yourhowtosite.com
Username: my hosting account username
Password: my hosting account password
My hosting account in Go Daddy is under www.yourhowtosite.com and I have dozens of other domains assigned to the one hosting account. The site I want to load is another domain, the hosting path is defined, the directory is created (there has been previous content on that site which I downloaded, i.e. took off, about a month ago).
To your knowledge am I filling out the Site Manager information properly?

Well after messing around with this for a day and a half and getting plenty frustrated
...
I must be filling out the site manager details wrong.
What is the proper format to fill in Site Name and Host/ISP/URL ? (please see post above this one). Also, the instructions on what New Site means isn't clear.
Can someone clarify please? I am hoping to make some progress today.
Thank you,
Jim

Well ...
Two days later and no response.
CP ... do you, or anyone for that matter, know the correct format for filling out the site manager box? Also, what exactly does "New Site" mean?
To clarify again:
I host with Go Daddy.
I have a domain, www.yourhowtosite.com , which is the name of the hosting account.
I have about two dozen domains tied to that hosting account.
Can someone help?

Well, I have contacted Go Daddy and they tell me my account information is correct.
Actually what I'm trying to get an answer to is this, what's the proper format for inputting information into the Site Manager? As an example, there are several ways to enter it in, i.e. with/without the :::: or with/without the www.
If I can get the answers to those questions, I can take it from there.
There's no issue with the DNS servers ... that was checked by Go Daddy and it's fine.
