Ascii files transfer in binary mode (SFTP)

Post by becker »

I was not able to transfer an ascii file in ascii mode, either uploading or downloading; the file transferred in binary mode. I tried several different ways to do an upload, NONE of which worked correctly:

1) I went to the options and added the extension of the file I was transferring (.pc) into the ascii extensions (and verified that the ignore box was not checked). The "Auto mode" button at the top of the main window was selected.

2) I changed the extension of the file to an extension that was in the default list of ascii extensions (.txt). The "Auto mode" button at the top of the screen was selected.

3) I selected the "Ascii mode" button at the top of the main window and tried uploading the .pc file.

4) I selected the "Ascii mode" button at the top of the main window and tried uploading the .txt file.

I tried both the "Auto" button and the "Ascii" button in the toolbar, but never the "Binary" button. Note that even with "Ascii" selected, the file transferred as binary.

No items were queued up. I verified that the ".pc" extension was in the list, and that it stayed in the list after closing the program and restarting it. The "ignore" button was not checked.

Note that files with ascii extensions such as ".txt" or other values that came as delivered with the program also transferred in binary mode when the "Auto" or "Ascii" toolbar buttons were selected.

Version is 1.3 build 1375, ANSI version.

My log file was no help.

However, it looks like I failed to mention that I am using SFTP/SSH.

I did some further research into your help files and found the site setting to "simulate ASCII mode for SFTP", and your explanation as to why such an option is necessary. From the help file, it didn't look like that would help me much, because I am trying to upload an ASCII file *to* the server, not the other way around.

Nevertheless, I selected the option, restarted CoreFTP, and tried again. Still no luck.

I hope that there is some other option I may be missing.

This appears to have resolved it. Thanks!
