Core FTP Server stops accepting connections

Post by TTNuge »

We have an instance of Core FTP in our environment and occasionally it stops accepting new connections until the service is stopped and restarted. It is running on Windows 2008 R2 64 bit and I recently updated to the latest Core FTP build of 1.2 419. It doesn't appear to show anything in the logs that indicates the problem, usually we don't know of the issues until one of the users tries to connect. A simple stop/restart of the service gets it working again without changing anything else but obviously this is very inconvenient.

Any thoughts?

Are you able to connect locally (with a client on the physical server) when this issue arises?

Just happened again. Could not connect locally on the machine and couldn't telnet to port 22. Looks like Core FTP just hangs, it was stuck this way for hours until one of our users noticed.

Any ideas? Reinstall, rebuild the machine, use a different server? Any specifics I can look at?

It could be a lack of Winsock resources. Next time this occurs, do a netstat and see how many connections are pending.

Is this FTP or SFTP?

We use it only for SFTP but I noticed that FTP stops responding as well if we hit it internally to the environment. It only has a few connections at a time but I will check a netstat next time.
